Dislocated Shoulder

Your shoulder becomes dislocated when the bone located in your upper arm moves out of the socket in the shoulder blade. A dislocated shoulder may look deformed or physically out of place. It may be swollen, bruised, and very painful, and you may not be able to move the joint.

Shoulder Bursae

The bursae in the shoulder are small, fluid-filled sacs that reduce the friction between the moving parts in your joints. Bursitis occurs when these bursae become irritated and inflamed.

Frozen Shoulder

Characterized by stiffness and pain in the shoulder, frozen shoulder starts gradually and worsens over time. It is more likely to occur in people who are recovering due to injury who have had to immobilize their shoulder for a long period or in those with diabetes.

Rotator Cuff Injury

The rotator cuff is a cluster of muscles and tendons encompassing the joint in the shoulder. Its job is to keep the upper arm bone in place in the socket of the shoulder. Injuries to the rotator cuff typically happen when a person repeatedly performs overhead motions. It causes a dull ache in the shoulder which gets worse when you sleep on the side of the injury.

Strains and Sprains

Sprains are the result of stretching or tearing of the ligaments in the shoulder. Symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising, and limited movement. You may experience a loud pop at the time of injury.

Strains are when the muscles or tendons in the shoulder stretch or tear. It causes pain, swelling, muscle spasms, and a limited ability to move the affected muscle.

Tendinitis

The thick, fibrous cords that attach muscle to bone are called tendons. When these cords become inflamed and irritated due to strain and overuse, tendinitis may occur. Sometimes it can be caused by a sudden injury. Symptoms include pain when moving the affected joint, tenderness, and mild swelling.
